20:T529,Partial root drying (PRD) is a new irrigation and plants growing \ntechnique which improves water use efficiency without significant yield reduction. \nIn the present paper some of the recent data concerning PRD effects \non crop plants are presented as well as some of our own results of PRD grown \ntomato plants. Tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) were grown \nin commercial compost with the root system divided equally between two \nplastic pots. During the vegetative and generative stage of development, half \nof the root system of PRD was maintained in a dry state, while the remainder \nof the root system was irrigated. After c.10 days (when soil water content \nwas reduced to 30%) the treatment was reversed, allowing the previously \nwell-watered side of the root system to dry down while fully irrigating the \npreviously dry side. Therefore, PRD plants received half of the amounts of \nwater used by plants in the control treatment. During the experimental period \nthe analyses of several plant growth and productivity and gas exchange parameters \nwere done. The results obtained showed that as a consequence of PRD \ntreatment the growth of whole plants was reduced with increased crop water \nuse efficiency and sugar content.21:T42e,Quality of nine winter wheat cultivars (Ana Morava, Aleksandra, Toplica, KG-56S, Kruna, Planeta, \nTakovcanka, Vizija and Studenica) was studied in this paper. Field experiment was conducted in three growing seasons (2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08) on the experimental field of Small Grains Research Centre of Kragujevac, Serbia. Zeleny sedimentation value, wet gluten content and rheological properties of flour and dough (water absorption, dough development time, dough stability time, and dough softness) were analyzed. There was a significant effect of year on the value of studied quality components of grain and flour. The investigated wheat cultivars had quality at first and second quality class. Farinograph properties have shown that flour of analyzed cultivars belonged to A2 and B1 quality groups. The results showed that the variety Ana Morava, Aleksandra, Toplica and KG-56S hade excellent grain and flour quality. Analysis of variance showed highly significant differences among cultivars, years and its interactions for investigated quality properties.22:T50e,The lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricius, 1792) (Coleoptera: Bostrichidae) is a primary pest of stored wheat. Many authors studied its development on this cereal. The wheat is commonly stored together with other grain, especially barley, rye, oats and triticale. The objectives of this study are to assess the feeding preferences for the small grains (wheat, barley, rye, oat and triticale) and to evaluate their susceptibility/resistance to progeny production of R. dominica. The mean survival rate of R. dominica adults, progeny emergence and amounts of insect-damaged grains and dockage in various small grain species were determined. Also, influence of R. dominica feeding on chemical properties (moisture protein and ash contents in grains) was found out. The influence of the grain species on the development of R. dominica was significant. The highest mortality of parents and the lowest progeny counts in oats, while triticale is very suitable for development of R. dominica, much more then wheat, as a primary host. The biggest amount of damage kernals and dust were found in triticale.
