Abstract

Intraoperative prophylaxis against fat and bone-marrow embolism during total hip arthroplasty with cement can reduce the incidence of postoperative deep-vein thrombosis. We now use the bone-vacuum technique routinely in all total hip arthroplasties performed with cement.
