In this study, a methodology has been developed for obtaining a driving cycle from the measured data in actual traffic conditions. Vehicle speed transition matrices formed from the measured data are used in two stages to obtain a representative speed–time history for the route in consideration minimizing the deviation from average values for vehicle speed, acceleration and acceleration in relation to speed. Sample calculations have been performed indicating reasonable results.
