Abstract

A high performing microphone array enables localization and quantification of noise from high-speed trains. So far, most reported results suffer from bad resolution and a high degree of measurement noise due to disturbing side lobes. However, the new spiral array, developed at the Deutsche Bahn AG's Research Center, produces results with a good resolution and S/N ratio, demonstrated by high-speed train measurements, including the German ICE 1, ICE 2 and ICE- T trains as well as the Italian ETR 500 train, partially equipped with bogie shrouds and multi-layer damped wheel. The importance of the relevant sound sources is discussed. (A) For the covering abstract see ITRD E113232.
