Abstract

SUMMARY N-Methyltyramine, an indirectly acting sympathomimetic amine, produced insignificant effects in goats treated with reserpine and promazine. The amine depleted the norepinephrine content of rat heart and brain tissue. Monoamine oxidase ( mao ) activity in liver of rats decreased when the rats were fed a protein-free ration or were given N-methyl β-phenylethylamine. Vitamin B 12 stimulated the metabolism of N-methyl β-phenylethylamine by ruminal microflora isolated from ruminants fed a semipurified ration.
