Automatic Generation of Stochastically Dominant Modes of Structural Failure in Frame Structure

Abstract

This paper proposes a method to evaluate the upper bound for the structural failure probabmaty Of frarne structures by automatically generating the failure rnodes and their safety margins and by systematically selecting the stochastically dominant modes of failure.The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated through numerical exaTnples and the relationship of the proposed method to the conventional methods is discussed.It is shown that the proposed method is also applicable to the automatic generation of stochastically dominant rnodes and their mode equations needed for the conventional methods.
