Preliminary consideration is given to the problems involved in generating useful electric power with a stellarator. The analyses are focussed on a proposed machine with a reaction tube of diameter 3 to 4 ft, with an axial length of 540 H measured around the figure 8, and with a surrounding blanket 2 ft thick composed of steel pipes containing water and molten lithium.
