We present and discuss an electromechanical model \nof a cardiac-type excitable tissue that accounts for \nlarge deformations and involves a three-variables \nionic dynamics. In particular, we exploit a novel \npoint of view presented in [Nardinocchi, 2007] \nwhich introduces the notion of active deformation \nas opposed to that of active stress.
