Abstract

We review the historical and economic importance of powder technology in perspective to the development of chemical engineering. We describe a basic approach to understanding powders that relates microscopic particle properties to the bulk behavior of powders. We then present a brief overview of the unit operations of powder processing, as well as how a systems approach is appropriate to optimize powder processes. Future trends in research and education are highlighted along the way
