This paper investigates in detail the methods available for identifying a damping matrix of structural and mechanical systems. Some of the methods are described in such detail that the reader will be able to implement them quickly without deciphering much of the authors original work. Simple straightforward methods are described, and more in depth methods that take into account noise or incomplete data are explained.
