This paper describes how the results of laboratory tests can be used to predict the deflections of pavement systems. Specifically, the paper describes the method used to predict the transient deflections of a three layer pavement structure composed of an asphalt concrete surface on untreated base overlying a fine grained subgrade soil and a comparison of these predicted deflections with actual measured deflections on prototype structure. In addition, comparisons are included for an in-service pavement between deflections predicted on the basis of laboratory measured resilience characteristics and those measured with a Benkelman Beam.
