This paper presents the results of one of the final aspects of research to supplement empirical approaches with basic and fundamental concepts in determining the properties and behavior of bituminous paving mixtures. The research examined relates the basic properties of the filler and the mastic to optimal behavior of bituminous mixtures, such as optimal bitumen content and optimum mechanical behavior. The outcome is a suggested, basic quantitative criterion for classifying the fillers with respect to their influence on the behavior of the mixture.
