Abstract

As axons with thicker myelin sheaths conduct faster and require a greater volume, these results suggest asymmetry of myelination as an explanation for both a left hemisphere dominance for rapid sensory signal processing, leading to a functional asymmetry for language, and a larger left planum temporale.
