The blurb on the back cover of Fair Play indicates that, notwithstanding the range of differences (regional, stylistic, career) which delineate Canadian playwrights, the essential questions this text seek to answer are: What is the nature of play-writing? Feminism? Canadian identity and culture? These are extremely serious questions given today’s cultural climate: obviously, Judith Rudakoff and Rita Much were not contemplating a light-hearted lark when they developed this project. Consequently, as reader I approached this collection of interviews with the reverence of a silent servant at an imposing, well-planned dinner party.
