Abstract

Sixteen percent of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions result from its transport sector, with projected growth up by 61% by 2050. 85% of these emissions are from road transport, with the remainder equally shared by marine, rail and air transport. Australia's recent efforts to identify options that could significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its transport sector, as well as to determine the potential results of each option and examine challenges and uncertainties as to their success, are presented here.
