In October 2009 the Population Council conducted a formative study in Rural Uttar Pradesh with the following objectives: (a) to explore the current status and postnatal care practices for mothers and newborns including care seeking for complications; (b) to identify the barriers and factors facilitating the adoption of healthy postnatal care practices; (c) to identify programmatic and behavior change communications (BCC) initiatives that could accelerate the adoption of healthy postnatal care practices.
