This paper presents a new theoretical-empirical formula for estimating the distribution of the queue lengths at unsignalised intersections under stationary and non-stationary traffic conditi The formula for stationary traffic is based on the data of the M/ queue system and is nearly asexact as a M/G2/1 queue system. But can be very easily applied, similar to the formula from the M/M/1 queue system. The formula for estimatingthe distribution of the queue lengths under non-stationary traffic conditions is then der from the theoretical- empirical formula for stationarytraffic conditions. This can be done by using the transformation techniq of Kimber and Hollis. For practical applications, graphical nomographsfor calculating the 95 per cent and 99 per cent (also possible for other percentiles) queue lengths are produced under stationary as well as non-stationary traffic conditions. They ca used for proving traffic quality(in the analysis module) or for determining the necessary queueing spaces(in the planning module) (a)
