Abstract

This study presents ratings for walkability in 13 Asian cities. It evaluates the existing institutions and policies in relation to walking environments and pedestrians. It provides data on pedestrian infrastructure in these cities. Pedestrian preference interviews were also conducted, to determine what pedestrians think of the pedestrian facilities in their area. If was found that 41% of the survey respondents consider their pedestrian facilities to be bad or very bad; and that 67% of the survey respondents would travel by motorized transportation if their pedestrian facilities did not improve.
