Abstract

The two-dimensional radiation problem and diffraction problem are discussed for submerged elliptic cylinders when a current is present. It is shown that the impact of the current on the wave amplitudes and wave forces is large. The singularity in the problem, corresponding to a wave traveling upstream with a group velocity equal to the speed of the current, is examined. As expected, this singularity influences the motion strongly. It is found, however, that the amplitudes and forces remain finite.
