Abstract

generally. He is especially articulate when discussing the latter. His essay, An Integrated Peace Walk Through Georgia, is a moving experience for the reader. He is consistent in his own dedication to non-violent tactics, therefore departs from many of the new left. He points to the oppressive, coercive character of American politics, makes a persuasive case for the power of revolutionary nonviolence, but then acts as an apologist for the oppressed who do commit violent acts. The critic can fault Dellinger for his logic here, but these essays are not exercises in scholarly analysis and should not be judged on this basis. They are the passionate expression of a man whose life is the movement. As such they bring the rich insight of experience through an articulate spokesman.
