Abstract

It is not clear...why education should apparently have such a universal effect on the risks of child death nor what constitute the vital ingredients of this powerful relationship: there is a great need to unpack the contents of the relationship between mortality and education. Anthropology can often be used to interpret demographic associations; here we highlight some of the anthropological responses to questions raised by demographic evidence. (EXCERPT)
