The effects of labour policies on the size of the work force are studied for a seven day a week operation. A formula is given for calculating the minimum number of people that need to be employed for the case where the daily demand may differ for each of the seven days, each person is to work exactly 10 days in a 14-day period, each person is to have at least every second weekend off, and no work period is to exceed six consecutive days. For special cases it is shown that the number of employees is reduced drastically by defining the work period as Sunday to.Saturday in place of Monday to Sunday. In all cases scheduling techniques are included.
