Abstract

Up to 98% of the iodine-136 present in the milk of a cow dosed with radioactive iodine has been removed by passing the milk through a column of a strong base anion exchanger in the chloride form. The milk remained palatable. Experiments on the removal of calcium and added strontium from milk indicate the possibility of removing up to 98% of any radiostrontium in milk. The strontium may be removed by a strong acid cation exchanger in the calcium form. (auth)
