Abstract

The AASTO-recommended resilient modulus (Mr) is being used by transportation agencies as the fundamental parameter in the mechanistic analysis and design of pavements. In this sense, testing procedures and internal deformation measurements play a very crucial role. In view of this, the AASHTO T-294-1992 and AASHTO T-292-1991 testing procedures were evaluated while two separate measurement system inside the triaxial cell were used to measure axial deformations. Cohesive and granular soils were tested. Finally, the type of soil, testing procedures, and location of the internal, linear variable differential transformers and their influence on the regression model constants are discussed and graphically presented.
