Abstract

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a heterogeneous disorder and a frequent cause of consultation in adolescents. The etiology is multifactorial, involving genetic and environmental factors (intrauterine and extrauterine).1 The clinical manifestations are hirsutism, menstrual irregularities, and acne. In addition, metabolic alterations such as hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and obesity are also associated.2 The objectives of the treatment are to achieve ovulation, normalize menstrual cycles, reduce and if possible, eliminate hirsutism and acne, obtain an acceptable weight loss, and treat dyslipidemia and hyperglycemia to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.3
