Here, we explore the origins of catalytic selectivity of Fe-Mn spinel oxide and identify electron delocalization of the surface metal active site as the key driver of its nonradical catalysis. Through fine-tuning the crystal geometry to trigger Fe-Mn superexchange interaction at the spinel octahedra, ZnFeMnO₄ with high-degree electron delocalization of the Mn-O unit was created to enable near 100% nonradical activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) at unprecedented utilization efficiency. The resulting surface-bound PMS* complex can efficiently oxidize electron-rich pollutants with extraordinary degradation activity, selectivity, and good environmental robustness to favor water decontamination applications. Our work provides a molecule-level understanding of the catalytic selectivity and bimetallic interactions of Fe-Mn spinel oxides, which may guide the design of low-cost spinel oxides for more selective and efficient decontamination applications.1e:T4c0,Simultaneous regulation of the coordination environment of single-atom catalysts (SACs) and engineering architectures with efficient exposed active sites are efficient strategies for boosting peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. We isolated cobalt atoms with dual nitrogen and oxygen coordination (Co-N₃ O₁ ) on oxygen-doped tubular carbon nitride (TCN) by pyrolyzing a hydrogen-bonded cyanuric acid melamine-cobalt acetate precursor. The theoretically constructed Co-N₃ O₁ moiety on TCN exhibited an impressive mass activity of 7.61×10⁵ min^-1 mol^-1 with high ¹ O₂ selectivity. Theoretical calculations revealed that the cobalt single atoms occupied a dual nitrogen and oxygen coordination environment, and that PMS adsorption was promoted and energy barriers reduced for the key *O intermediate that produced ¹ O₂ . The catalysts were attached to a widely used poly(vinylidene fluoride) microfiltration membrane to deliver an antibiotic wastewater treatment system with 97.5 % ciprofloxacin rejection over 10 hours, thereby revealing the suitability of the membrane for industrial applications.1f:T44f,Graphitized nanodiamonds (ND) exhibit outstanding capability in activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the removal of aqueous organic micropollutants (OMPs). However, controversial observation and interpretation regarding the effect of graphitization degree on ND’s activity and the role of singlet oxygen (1O2) in OMP degradation need to be clarified. Herein, we investigated graphitized ND-mediated PMS activation. Experiments show that the activity of ND increases first and then decreases with the monotonically increased graphitization degree. Further experimental and theoretical studies unveil that the intensified surface graphitization alters the degradation mechanism from singlet oxygenation to an electron-transfer pathway.
