Abstract

This article introduces a novel coupling mechanism along with a simplified configuration strategy for achieving robust and wide-area dynamic wireless charging of multipath movable receivers (Rxs). The proposed coupling mechanism involves non-overlapping arrangement of multitransmitter (Tx) coils in a 2-D plane, which are omnidirectionally decoupled by integrating simple planar coils, effectively expanding the charging area with flexibility. To enhance the flux harvesting capability and maximize the stable coupling area of each Tx cell, a dual-winding complementary (Cx) coil is introduced on the Rx side without Rx coupling restrictions. Leveraging this mechanism, robust and efficient charging can be achieved by activating only one Tx or two diagonally adjacent Txs, thereby reducing system configuration complexity and power loss. Additionally, a double-layered model-free strategy based on co-measurementof the Tx and Rx sides is proposed for detecting the position and orientation of 2-D omnidirectional-moving Rx, facilitating Tx configuration with reduced cost and enhanced reliability. Experimental results from a scaled-down prototype demonstrate robust performance, achieving a stable 85% overall efficiency and less than ±5% output voltage fluctuation in the 2-D area, validating the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
