Owing to the extensive development and utilization of coal and carbon resources, the ecological balance of mining areas has been severely compromised, leading to detrimental effects on the surrounding environment and a clear violation of sustainable development strategies. Therefore, it is imperative to improve the governance of mining areas. Upon analyzing domestic and international policies, it is evident that there are significant shortcomings in the planning and execution of mine restoration in China. However, there is the potential for effective and scientifically sound management of mine ecological restoration. This study comprehensively reviews contemporary mining-related ecological restoration techniques, focusing on soil and vegetation as the primary ecological components. It outlines the current practices and envisions developing a robust mine ecological restoration system. By analyzing domestic and international case studies, this study elucidates the existing restoration technologies, offering valuable insights into the refinement and enhancement of ecological restoration methods. The ultimate goal is to bolster the efficacy of mine ecological restoration efforts and address issues such as soil erosion in mining regions by providing a scientific foundation for decision-making.
