Electrostatic Spinning to Construct Al/Fe-MOF/PAN Nanofibrous Membranes for the Selective Adsorption of Se(IV) in Water

Abstract

The emerging pollutant selenium has an immeasurable impact on production and life, and selective adsorption and effective utilization of excessive selenium in water bodies is very challenging. In this paper, nanoscale Al/Fe-MOF was obtained by in situ modification of Fe-MOF by Al3+, and Al/Fe-MOF-X/PAN nanofibrous membranes were prepared by combining with electrostatic spinning technology for the selective adsorption and enrichment of Se(IV) in water bodies. The adsorption experiments showed that the Al/Fe-MOF-2/PAN nanofibrous membranes had a high adsorption capacity and good selectivity for Se(IV), and the maximum adsorption capacity was up to 228.5 mg/g. The adsorption capacity of the adsorbent for Se(IV) in the actual water body was 220 mg/g. The five adsorption–desorption cycles demonstrated the multiple uses of the materials. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed that Se(IV) plays an important role in the anion exchange between the −OH in Se and Al species. This study is expected to shed light on the adsorption, enrichment, and transformation of selenium in real water bodies.
