Abstract

Rational design and structural engineering of the electrode material are essential for high-performance supercapacitors. In this study, we have designed a ternary nanocomposite NiFex/MM100–x, integrating NiFe-LDH, MoS2, and MXene through a two-step process, solvothermal followed by the incipient wet impregnation method. The high capacity of NiFe-LDH and the exceptional electrical conductivity of MoS2 and MXene make the NiFex/MM100–x composite a potential electrode material for a high-performance battery-type supercapacitor. The NiFe60/MM40 composite exhibited a remarkable specific capacity of 349.49 mAh g–1 at 1 A g–1. A hybrid supercapacitor device (NiFe60/MM40//MM) was constructed, assembling NiFe60/MM40 as the positive electrode and MM as the negative counterpart, which delivered a superior power density of 800 W kg–1 at an energy density of 58.66 Wh kg–1. The NiFe60/MM40//MM device revealed outstanding cyclic stability by retaining 84% of the initial capacity even after enduring 5000 cycles at 10 A g–1. The above results explored the potential of 2D layered materials as an electrode material in energy storage applications.
