Abstract

Abstract. This study builds on Searle's (1989a) work which measured recreation board members ' needs. Data were generated from a survey of executive directors and volunteer board members of organizations housed at the Provincial Sport Centre in Toronto, Canada. Five needs constructs assessing growth, responsibility, contribution, recognition, and relations were supported. Similarities and differences of respondents by gender and position (volunteer board member and executive director) for the needs constructs are discussed with implications for board development.
