The three MOFs in this study are three of the most highly studied MOFs in the literature. We investigate here how each MOF degrades at several temperature and humidity conditions over the course of 28 days. At conditions of 90% relative humidity (RH) and 25 °C, water uptake for Cu-BTC is shown to be higher than at 90% RH and 40 °C, causing the degradation of the inner structure of Cu-BTC to occur more readily at the lower temperature. However the external surfaces of Cu-BTC degrade more readily, as shown through SEM images, at conditions of 90% RH and 40 °C. Mg-MOF-74 has a nearly complete loss of surface area after just one day of exposure to each of the conditions studied, however the PXRD patterns show only a change in the [100] peak. We offer here a novel mechanism for the degradation of Mg-MOF-74, involving a 6-coordinate Mg intermediate, which leaves the 1-dimensional channels of Mg-MOF-74 intact. Furthermore, we conclude that UiO-66 is stable to each of the aging conditions for the full 28 days of this study.1e:T4ab,Vapor-phase adsorption and separation of the C8 alkylaromatic components p-xylene, m-xylene, o-xylene, and ethylbenzene on the metal-organic framework MIL-47 have been studied. Low coverage Henry adsorption constants and adsorption enthalpies were determined using the pulse chromatographic technique at temperatures between 230 and 290 degrees C. The four C8 alkylaromatic components have comparable Henry constants and adsorption enthalpies. Adsorption isotherms of the pure components were determined using the gravimetric technique at 70, 110, and 150 degrees C. The adsorption capacity and steepness of the isotherms differs among the components and are strongly temperature dependent. Breakthrough experiments with several binary mixtures were performed at 70-150 degrees C and varying total hydrocarbon pressure from 0.0004 to 0.05 bar. Separation of the different isomers could be achieved. In general, it was found that the adsorption selectivity increases with increasing partial pressure or degree of pore filling. The separation at a high degree of pore filling in the vapor phase is a result of differences in packing modes of the C8 alkylaromatic components in the pores of MIL-47.1f:T426,The separation and purification of xylene isomers is an industrially important but challenging process. Developing highly efficient adsorbents is crucial for the implementation of simulated moving bed technology for industrial separation of these isomers. Herein, we report a stacked one-dimensional coordination polymer {[Mn(dhbq)(H₂O)₂], H₂dhbq = 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone} that exhibits an ideal molecular recognition and sieving of xylene isomers. Its distinct temperature-adsorbate-dependent adsorption behavior enables full separation of p-, m-, and o-xylene isomers in both vapor and liquid phases. The delicate stimuli-responsive swelling of the structure imparts this porous material with exceptionally high flexibility and stability, well-balanced adsorption capacity, high selectivity, and fast kinetics at conditions mimicking industrial settings. This study may offer an alternative approach for energy-efficient and adsorption-based industrial xylene separation and purification processes.20:T5d9,
