Abstract

This letter presents a multipolarization folded transmitarray antenna (MPFTA) based on Huygens’ metasurface (HMS). The antenna can change its polarization simply by altering the state of the linear polarization (LP) feed antenna. A dual-polarized HMS with high transmission amplitude (>0.91) is proposed to achieve multiple polarized wave transmission and phase compensation. A polarization conversion surface (PCS) that can convert different linearly polarized incident waves into multi-polarization electromagnetic waves is designed. Then the MPFTA can be realized by combining the single-layer HMS, the single-layer PCS, and an LP feed antenna. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first folded transmitarray antenna (FTA) antenna introducing multipolarization. To verify the design, the MPFTA operating at 19 GHz is fabricated and measured. The simulated and measured results agree well. Measurement peak gains are 25.87, 25.89, and 25.8 dBi at right-hand circular polarization, left-hand circular polarization, and LP polarization states. The corresponding aperture efficiencies are 33.3%, 33.4%, and 32.7%. Moreover, our antenna remains relatively stable performance for different polarizations.
