Manned airtight cabins are used for various applications. A well-designed airtight manned cabin can efficiently facilitate personnel tasks. However, most current research on design methods for manned airtight cabins was based on objective considerations of the physical environment. It lacked a human-based starting point to consider the relationship between human operational performance and the function of manned airtight cabins. In this study, we proposed a design method for manned enclosed cabins driven by human operational performance. By identifying the critical factors influencing human operation performance, an ergonomic design index system for a manned cabin was constructed, and three ergonomic design methods for the manned cabin were proposed. Taking a manned submersible as an example, a case analysis and methods of application verification were conducted. The proposed method can provide a reliable guarantee for maximizing the task execution ability and provide new research ideas for follow-up design and research in the field of ergonomics.
