Massive doses of potassium penicillin G, given intravenously to four patients with renal failure, resulted in decreased consciousness, myoclonic jerking, and seizures. Although similar cases have been reported, the syndrome is not well known. The frequency of this serious complication demands that caution be used in administering large doses of penicillin to azotemic patients.
