After fictional groups having hierarchical structures were presented, subjects were asked to imagine relations of either friendliness or antagonism between members of each group. Friendliness-antagonism relationship depended on the hierarchical structures, this bringing about a conflict with the equilibrium bias usually encountered in friendliness-antagonism structures. These effects were affected by only two types of instructions : hierarchies presented in the form of influential relationships in a group of students, or in the form of authoritative relationships in an administration group.
