The cylindrical shell as a structural element often used in various industries: aerospace (aircraft and rocket bodies, fuel tanks); energy (turbine casings); chemical and petrochemical (elements of column and reactor type apparatus, heat exchangers, tanks). Often, during operation, compressive axial stresses arise in the shell, for example, under the action of a weight load (structure, snow) or thermal expansion of the shell metal. In such cases, the design of the shell is decisive for stability.
