Structures, morphologies, and magnetic and electromagnetic properties of two NiO structures have been systematically investigated. SEM and TEM results suggested that S1 had a hierarchical rose-flower architecture with diameters in the range of 4-7 μm, whereas S2 exhibited a porous silk-flower architecture with diameters of 0.7-1.0 μm. Electromagnetic performances indicated that the NiO hierarchical structures played a crucial role in determining their dielectric behavior and impedance matching characteristic, which further influenced the microwave attenuation property of absorbers based on them. Due to its hierarchical and porous architectures, S2 had higher microwave absorption performances than S1. The maximum R_L value for sample S2 can reach -65.1 dB at 13.9 GHz, while an efficient bandwidth of 3 GHz was obtained. In addition, the mechanism of the improved microwave absorption were discussed in detail. It is expected that our NiO hierarchical structures synthesized in this work could be used as a reference to design novel microwave absorption materials.1e:T4ea,As electromagnetic absorbers with wide absorption bandwidth are highly pursued in the cutting-edge electronic and telecommunication industries, the traditional dielectric or magnetic bulky absorbers remain concerns of extending the effective absorption bandwidth. In this work, a dual-principle strategy has been proposed to make a better understanding of the impact of utilizing conductive absorption fillers coupled with implementing artificial structures design on the absorption performance. In the comparison based on the microscopic studies, the carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-based absorbers are confined to narrow operating bandwidth and relatively fixed response frequency range, which can not fulfill the ever-growing demands in the application. With subsequent macroscopic structure design based on the CNTs-based dielectric fillers, the artificial patterns show much more broadened absorption bandwidth, covering the majority of C-band, the whole X-band, and Ku-band, due to the tailored electromagnetic parameters and more reflections and scatterings. A three-dimensional metamaterial absorber consisting of honeycomb and resistive films was proposed and fabricated through 3D printing and silk-screen printing technology. According to simulation and experiment results, the present three-dimensional metamaterial absorber can realize an absorptivity of more than 90% in a wide band of 3.53-24.00 GHz, and improve absorbing efficiency for transverse magnetic (TM) waves of oblique incidence angle from 0° to 70°.
