Organophotocatalysis Enables the Synthesis of <i>gem</i>-Fluorophosphonate Alkenes

Abstract

<i>gem</i>-Bromofluoroalkenes have been combined with phosphite under irradiation, in the presence of Fukuzumi's catalyst (9-mesityl-10-methylacridinium perchlorate) as an organic photocatalyst, to provide valuable <i>gem</i>-fluorophosphonate derivatives, known as stable mimics of phosphates. The desired products were obtained in good to excellent yields, and the reaction showed very good chemical tolerance.
