Spectrum for Automotive Radar in the 140 GHz Band in Europe

Abstract

The automotive industry is looking for new spectrum to further sustain the demand of advanced automotive radar sensors. In this contribution, we provide an overview of the challenges and technical solutions under discussion in the European regulatory body that investigates the potential use of frequencies beyond 100 GHz for future automotive radar applications. Although there is no agreed decision on the conditions that future automotive radars operating at the candidate bands have to meet, we are confident that a common understanding among the stakeholders of the existing services and the representatives of the automotive radar industry can be found.
