Structural alterations of the insula in depression patients – A 7-Tesla-MRI study

Abstract

The combination of differences in grey matter volume between healthy controls and patients with a positive correlation of cortical thickness with disease severity underscores the insula's role in the pathogeneses of MDD. The connectivity hub insular cortex seems vulnerable to disruption in context of affective disease.
