Leora Auslander Leora Auslander leora auslander is currently Director of the Center for Gender Studies at the University of Chicago, where she also teaches European history. Recent publications include Taste and Power: Furnishing Modern France (University of California Press, 1996), “The Gendering of Consumer Practices in Nineteenth-Century France” in The Sex of Things: Gender and Consumption in Historical Perspective (University of California Press, 1996), and, as coeditor with Michelle Zancarini-Fournel, Différence des sexes et protection sociale (XIXe—XXe siècles) (Presses universitaires de Vincennes, 1995). She is currently working on a comparative study on the everyday life of citizenship in France and Germany.
