Personal communication is an emerging, wireless, service‑independent paradigm that aims to unify existing cellular, paging, satellite, and LAN technologies into a universal telecommunication number, with active global research underway. The paper critically reviews personal communication, analyzes performance of selected components, and compares India’s position to the international landscape. The authors conduct a critical review and performance analysis of key personal communication components.
Personal communication is poised to bring a revolution in communication. Personal communication shall be a wireless, service-independent and like natural communication. It shall support all sorts of mobility. Active research is going on in this field all over the world. As of today, personal communication is seen as a sum total of existing wireless communications like cellular communication, paging, mobile satellite services, VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal), wireless LAN etc., although ultimately personal communication shall be a UTN (Universal telecommunication Number) service. In this paper we shall critically review personal communication and do some performance analysis of some components of personal communication. We shall also compare the Indian position with respect to international position in personal communication.
