Abstract

The terms "binaural hearing" and "stereophonic sound" have caught the imagination of all who are interested in sound and its electronic reproduction as well as those of us who are interested in hearing and deafness. Stereophonia has become the central theme of the dazzling high-fidelity fairs which have visited the nation's largest cities during the past few years. More recently, in the field of hearing impairment there has been a rapidly expanding interest in the functional differences between monaural and binaural hearing and in the relative advantages of the latter. The revival of clinical and experimental activities in this area has been stimulated in part by the recent development of new surgical techniques for the relief of deafness and by the practical miniaturization of the modern hearing aid. An increasing amount of research is also being carried on in the field of message communication. A brief search of the literature
