„Mauer“-Mikrostrukturen von künstlichen Chitosan-Montmorillonit(MTM)-Bionanokompositfilmen lassen sich leicht aus Chitosan-MTM-Hybridnanoblättern herstellen (siehe Bild). Die feuerhemmenden Perlmutt-artigen Filme verfügen über eine höhere mechanische Leistungsfähigkeit (Young-Modul: 10 GPa, Zugfestigkeit: 100 MPa) als ein Film, der auf herkömmliche Weise hergestellt wurde.
