Abstract

Characteristics of the potassium stannate‐potassium hydroxide system are described, and its applications to tin plating are outlined. The effect of variations in bath composition and in operating conditions upon plating characteristics is traced. Because of much higher solubility and favorable solubility vs . temperature relationships, as well as higher conductivity, and a wider range of useful current densities, the potassium stannate bath has many advantages over the conventional alkaline bath. Possible fields of application are indicated, with special reference to the electrotinning of steel strip.
