Factitial Panniculitis

Abstract

Two women had panniculitis caused by self-injection of drugs. One dissolved meperidine hydrochloride tablets in water and injected the solution into her thighs. The other did not admit self-inoculation, but roentgenograms of the nodules gave evidence of multiple calcifications. In both cases, biopsy specimens from the nodules showed multiple birefringent particles in polarized light.
