Abstract A graphic method to optimize the compensator current which is injected into a network node in order to reduce the harmonic distortion of the network, for the single‐order harmonic problem, is presented. This method is suitable to find out whether a solution of the optimization problem, even under multiple constraints, exists and, in this case, gives the approximate optimum. Since this graphic solution is easily executed by computer, it seems to be an attractive and practicable technique. Its validity and simplicity has been verified by the simulating computation for a real simplified 20 kV distribution system.
