Abstract

w -5-Chloro-4,6-dinirrobmzafuroran, prepared by nitration of 5-chlorobenzofuroxan, isomerires thermally t o 7-chlaro-4,6-dinitrobbbbbfffffff.The latter compoud reacts with water, in the presence of potassium bicarbonate, to give the potassium salt of 7-hydro~-4,6-dinitrobbbbbfffffaf and vith methanol, in the presence of potassium bicarbonate, to give porensiu.4,l-dihydro-4,s-dinltro-' C D C ~~ s o l v e n t .The chemistry of ( 2 ) and (3) i s being explored zn more d e t a l l 1.
