An approximate analytical solution of the nonlinear straight fin problem is proposed. It is assumed that the heat transfer coefficient and the thermal conductivity are arbitrary functions dependent on the temperature. The approximate solution is obtained by linearizing the fin equation about an arbitrary reference temperature and then the linearized equation is solved. The proposed approximate solution is successfully compared with the numerical solutions.
